We took some time to get to know Linh a

little more and see what she has planned

for her bright future. The following text is

the transcript of an interview conducted at

the tutoring center.

Can you tell us about yourself?

I'm Linh. I am a freshly graduated student from Westminster High School. I'll be attending UCSD in the fall, but I'll be going there early to get a feel for the student life. I'm going to be studying biochemistry, ultimately to get into medical school — I'm super stoked for that. And, yes, I've been here for two years, and I'm sad to be leaving.

That's really great to hear. We would like to know: what was your proudest moment as a tutor at the center?

Well... okay, that's a difficult question, because every student has a different skill level. That's why whenever there is any improvement — in either their academic performance or behavior — it is always a great moment. For example, without disclosing any students' names, some of them simply have attendance issues, some struggle with grades, and some turn in late assignments. The fact that I can be a part of their journey, however they improve themselves, is what makes me proudest.

That's really awesome that you can help students improve their behavior and performance in school by offering support as a tutor here at the center. So, the next question is: what do you like to do during break time?

That's a fun question! We get 15 to 30 minute breaks at the center, and what I personally like to do is play Roblox with my tutees. We've also done Pictionary, where we draw on the whiteboard and guess what it is. We also do stickman and trivia. Any type of fun, de-stressing activity is my go-to.

I agree — it's really important to decompress when we're tutoring for long hours. I love that you know how to have fun with your tutees. Sometimes Co Cathy has snacks laying around the center. What's your favorite snack?

Do drinks count?

Would you call soda a dessert?

Alright, I'll say my favorite snack is the mixed chips that we have. Sometimes they have spicy flavored ones. And that's why I have my pimples right now.

Haha, alright. I'm a Sun Chips kind of person myself — so if there are any of those around, expect them to be devoured by me. So, what's your favorite subject to tutor?

Mainly, I tutor English and math. But for higher-level students, I can also tutor chemistry, physics, and calculus as well. My favorite subject would be algebra. I've had the most experience with it, so I'm able to better explain the concepts.

I imagine you're going to use a lot of algebra in biochem! I want to thank you for taking the time for this interview. My last question is: what are some of your goals in the near future?

Hmmm. Well, my ultimate goal is to be an attending physician, but to get there I have to get into med school. That's also why I've been tutoring — you learn best by teaching others. And what better job to do that than becoming a tutor?
